Moved here from Chicago in 1984. Back then, there were 60% less traffic signals, 30% more greenhouses, 10% more trees, and 97% Iess people. Regardless, this town is one of the last small, 1960's beach towns in Southern Califonia that hasn't sold out to tourism. It's heading that direction fast, but remains a small community of liberals, surfers, artists, and good families that take pride in raising thier family at the beach...not just near it.
Below are some of my favorite places to be anytime of the week.
I owe you one, Leucadia.
Beacons Beach - I can't stay away too long. Daily visits, rain or shine.
Stone Steps - Best kept secret...more stairs = less traffic.
Pannikin Cafe - Converted Train Station - a piece of history with your Bandiera Bagel?
Lou's Records - Probably the most famous independent record shop in SoCal.
Ducky Waddles - Great artbooks and other items - It's a shame they obey a plagiarist
Mozy's Cafe - You need your weekly cleansing.
Le Papagayo - Best Breakfast Coffee and Potatoes like nowhere else.
Leucadia Park - The worst and best skatepark ever.
Farmer's Market - The best in fresh olives and sampling new tastes.
Longboard Grotto - Give some respect to your history
La Paloma Theatre - it's not technically Leucadia, but i still count it.
Read up on Leucadia here thanks to J.P. |
